The famous 1930's French game is finally back.
Jokari is a paddle-and-ball game where a rubber ball, tethered to a weighted wooden base by a long elastic band, rebounds back to you with every hit. No court, no wall, no opponent required. Each set is handcrafted by Diego and family in Quebec, using repurposed wood given a second life, individually numbered and limited to 999 pieces. The paddle and ball came together quickly, but the elastic took two years to perfect, landing on a 100% super stretchy Spanish latex, just 1mm thick and built to last. .
What’s included:
A bit of history: Jokari was invented in France in 1938 by Louis Joseph Miremont, then residing in Bayonne. Played with wooden paddles and a ball tethered to a weighted wooden base by a long elastic band, it let people rally back and forth without needing a court or a wall. The game became a summer staple on beaches and backyards through the mid-20th century, reaching cult status in France and even appearing in French comics and a James Bond novel. But like many classic toys, it eventually faded from shelves and from memory. Now, after 30 years away, Jokari is back, handcrafted by Diego and family in Quebec.
